Hubert Herr and his family began the design and handcrafting of the Black Forest cuckoo timepieces at the start of the 19 th century. The traditional way of handcrafting the unique timepieces continue even today. Every step of the manufacturing process is subjected to quality control, upholding the Herr name for superior quality. Hubert Herr timepieces are now exported to no fewer than 60 countries around the globe.

Two types of movement

The timepieces come in two types of movement. The eight day movement needs winding every week and has larger weights. The one day movement type needs winding every thirty hours and is characterized by the smaller cones or weights.

Although there are modern versions that work with batteries they cannot be considered as the traditional Black Forest timepieces. You will know that you have one of the limited Black Forest editions if it comes with a certificate and is operated mechanically. It is also important to verify that the mechanical parts come from the Black Forest.
